The Noah's Arc alum is one of my favorite OUT & PROUD actors -- His latest screen turn is in He's Just Not That Into You.
Well...
Love you, Wilson. And all my embattled OUT performers of color more than I can say. Although its not your fault Boo, I'll have to catch this one later. We have to draw the line somewhere. How long can we be snippy sex-crazed caricatures with one hand, while asking for normalcy and respect with the other? ~~

On a Noah's Arc note:
Black Gay Movie up for NAACP Image Awards
Mark your calendars. |

I guess an actor just want to earn a pay check sometimes...

Yes. We all need a paycheck. So true.
And I'd never begrudge our few OUT and PROUD actors of color for taking roles where they are the stereotypical sissy. Of course, I won't be giving the film my gay money if they don't attempt to paint us in a 21th century light.
Wilson is cool with me. Love him to death. And just like the ones who hated on Hattie McDaniel for playing a maid, and she famously and shrewdly said, "I'd rather play one than be one."
For her it was a choice between being a maid and riding the bus, and playing one and having a driver (and winning an Oscar). It was a no-brainer. For Wilson it should be a no-brainer also - do the damn movie, make that money, keep being part of OUT Hollywood.
The argument about perception and the depth of the roles isn't one the actors have to engage per se. Its the ones who really make the money off the films who need to know that we are tired of being the sissy side kick, or the faggot who fawns shamelessly over every cute straight guy they meet.
** Not that we don't fill those roles in life, but we're so much more -- fathers and husbands and wives and mentors and leaders, and not just the frivolous bauble on society they make us out to be **
Okay. Rant over. ;-)
